About EPRCalc
A free tool for DTC and CPG brands to preview their US packaging-EPR fee exposure.
What EPRCalc is
EPRCalc is a free estimator for state-level Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) packaging fees. Paste a Shopify storefront or a handful of product pages, and you get a per-state annual liability estimate for California (SB 54), Colorado (HB 22-1355), Maine (LD 1541), and Oregon (SB 582). Every result comes with a ±20% confidence band and a per-material breakdown. No signup.
Why we built it
Every mid-market DTC brand we talked to knew EPR fees were coming, and none of them knew what they would actually owe. The existing "solutions" are either enterprise compliance suites priced at $40k a year or legal memos that leave you nowhere. No one had a calculator a founder or head of ops could run in an afternoon. So we built one.
How the estimate is modeled
For each SKU, we ask Google's Gemini model to read your product page and identify the packaging components a customer receives. That means the primary container (bottle, jar, box), the closure, any secondary packaging, and the shipper, plus a reasonable material type and weight for each one. We multiply those per-unit weights by your annual unit volume (either what you tell us or what we infer), roll everything up by material family, and apply each state's published per-metric-ton rate. Rates come from Circular Action Alliance (CA, CO, OR) and Maine DEP, current as of Q1 2025. The ±20% band accounts for natural variation in weight inference.
What this is not
EPRCalc is not a compliance filing, not a filing-ready audit, and not legal advice. It is a directional estimate for planning. When you're ready to file with CAA or Maine DEP, you still want your compliance team and a certified packaging auditor in the loop.
Data handling
We retain the URLs you submit, extracted packaging data, and your email (if you join the waitlist) for 90 days in Cloudflare D1. We do not sell data. We never share your input data with third parties other than Google Gemini, which we use to extract packaging composition from your public product pages. Request deletion any time: [email protected].
